That is a common term around these parts.
The last tornado that came close to our house was a little wimpy F1 and it was 1.5 miles north of us. The radar and storm spotters were tracking it block by block. There were about a dozen of the neighbors all outside watching for it. The TV station helicopter was hovering right in front of us broadcasting the pictures and we were watching the coverage on my cell phone.
