For 30 years I never touched my grandfather's gift of a tiny bit of GE stock at birth.
I slept on couches, basements, and in the back seats of cars over winter and worked and went hungry instead.
(but I had it better than many homeless.)
When I later reached my lowest point in life (back stabbed by all stated security institutions designed to help and injured and despondent in life), I finally decided to fall back upon family savings.
Well, unknowingly it seemed Bank of New York bought out grampa's bank and sent me a single letter to a known old address.
"Your account is considered abandoned and will be forfeited in 30 days."
Yup, you read that right.
The bank was going to steal everything.
Life savings gone with the stoke of a keypad.
Even the experienced broker had a difficult time getting them to transfer my account.
Bank of New York: You are thieves!
