Let me tell you about gout!
Last year I went on a total high protein seafood diet, tuna, sardines, salmon. Lot's of sardines -- I actually became somewhat addicted (in olive oil, really good)... Plus the occasional mojito... Everything else didn't matter. I also had yogurt, apples, bananas, salads... Well... It only took about five months before I woke up in terrible pain in my feet. Excruciating pain like 100,000 hot needles! Richard is right, it's the worst pain you will ever experience. You can't touch your feet, a sheet can't touch your feet... they are so sensitive.. It flares up overnight, then you have it for 1-2 weeks as it subsides... Little evil uric acid crystals worm their way into every joint...
Turns out, if you have a proclivity toward gout the following will set it off, high purines... sardines, canned tuna, scallops, herring, beer, turkey, goose, sugary drinks, asparagus, spinach... etc. etc...
Wine is OK though...
After I quit the sardines (and mojitos) it gradually went away. Haven't had a bout since...
And that's your bar talk Cliff Clavin expertise for the day!
Now, back to your drinking!
