To get a crash gong it takes a chain of events to catalyze .
I have no clue how fuel could be that miscalculated......Most those routs for one thing are flown over and over by the same teams.
I am going to guess someone forgot to fill the tanks, someone forgot to do a check list.

Burn: on top of many other factors, Canada had recently switched to the metric system, and this was their first 767 purchased after the switch. Add to that a malfunctioning fuel montiroing system and many other factors... They just ran out of gas and glided into an abandoned air force base (which was being used for amateur racing at that moment!)
