If you like the high desert, sweeping vistas, etc. it is hard to beat Route 50 out of Reno across Nevada into Utah. Often called the "loneliest road in Amaerica" I find the trip simply stunning.
If you go during the right time of year - early fall - you any not see another car for a half hour. The mountain passes are amazing, the straights between the mountains a great opportunity to blow out some carbon
The great thing is that Route 50 feeds into some other extraordinary drives in Utah.

Watch for the moose!
Look carefully , they stand off the road with their Butt facing you.....Their huge rump and legs camouflage in to the trees, stumps . Very hard to see till you get used to them.
Stop at Laird hot Springs. call ahead, stay over night
