I'll second the "Melita" style coffee cone. You can buy a Plastic/Silicone collapsible version at REI. Uses a #4 paper filter. Light weight, not breakable.
I grind my beans espresso fine and bag in ziplock.
I use a ceramic cone at home... I'm the only coffe drinker in the house. Grind the beans fresh and drip brew daily.
French press is nice, but bulky to carry... I have large and small back pack versions.
