I did that on my old '88. The catalytic converter made the car reasonably quite until you put your foot in it.
I can't remember what year you've got, but if you've got a similar exhaust to a 3.2L, then make sure you don't drive like that too much or if you do, then work out some sort of hangar for the end of the cat or you'll end up creating all sorts of cracks in the exhaust.
