We have a home theater PC. All of our movies are ripped to it and it streams as well. It works well for the kids when they want to watch a movie as they don't have to handle the disks. The case looks like this:
We use Kodi (used to be XBMC) for all of our media management. It handles local content and streaming. We also have over the air TV for news and such.
