In Houston, before I switched to "wire a check" method, I would go back and forth. And if I was trying to impress guests, I would do a cross-cut 45 degree angle method. And we HAVE to bag the clippings down here with the heavy Saint Augustine grass.
One thing: I would sharpen the blades (Honda has 2 blades) every time. A quick zip with a file.
When I lived in upstate NY and Western Mass, I'd do the "circle" method, of ever tighter circles, to minimize the raking. I also sharpened the blade before every mowing.
