We are only allowed single shot rifles or double barrel shotguns now. No semi auto. They were banned back in the 90s after the Port Arthur Massacre.
There was no change to Pistol licencing but they've always been heavily controlled.

To get a licence here is difficult and the state Police commissioner gets the final say.
You have to be an active member of a gun club and to own anything you actually have to compete in events for that weapon. If not you can't hold onto them.

I'm not sure what restrictions Collectors have but I'm sure they are very heavily controlled and to get a collectors licence would be really difficult.

After Port Arthur the local legal gun market basically collapsed. Lots and lots of guns were handed in and destroyed and most of the smaller gun shops closed down.

Ironically Illegal weapons have become really expensive and easily available through your local "connected" drug dealer or whatever.
For instance a full auto AR15 would cost you about $30,000.
