I just had my fan housing welded by a friend who is not an expert compared to the first guy who said he specializes in magnesium welding. No problems at all. Just get it real clean. Tig welding will not cause this to catch fire, the argon does not support a flame. Don't believe , me watch the video on youtube by Mr. Tig. We used AZ33A filler rod not his recommended AZ92A. The expert I took it to first didn't really try to even clean it and gave up after a failed attempt and making a big mess. So I went to a bike builder friend who is a titanium specialist (True North Cycles) I removed all the bad weld and removed lots of material all the way through so there was no chance of impurity. I think he did a decent job for being a first time and after watching a video for training. Welds much like aluminum.
Did a trial fit to make sure its not warped. Not its back to my friends for media blasting and powder coating. I was thinking of doing a slightly darker colour than the fan for contrast.
