My big plan for retirement is to buy a nicer truck and camper and travel all over the US in a leasurly manner, but not anywhere near fulltimer status. We have our house paid off, haven't had car payments for 15 years, and have no CC debt, and i'll have a nice 30 year pension. There is no reason in the wold I couldn't live off of $1,000,000 in my 401K even with me retiring early at 60.
These financial planners are using scare tactics to prod you into investing more money into thier accounts. I also think they are using West Coast cost of living in thier calculations, because here in the "flyover" states, the C.O.L. is way lower than the East or West coast or big cities.
