They sell those things called mechanics gloves. I resisted them for years. I started wearing them anytime I had to high potential of busted knuckles or if working around sharp objects. They have saved me several times from the letting of blood and profanity.

Harbor freight has a similar glove that is about 3.99 a pair when they are on sale. Those are my go to gloves for garage work. Padding on tr back, fit good enough to do pretty much everything while wearing them. And cheap enough to toss when they start looking ugly.
