My wife loves their now cancelled TV show, thinks they are good people and we should be more like them. I've always been disturbed by it because the dad doesn't let his kids make decisions, he is sexist and doesn't empower his daughters, his kids don't seem prepared for the real world, and they live in their little church silo. Also, just the nutty factor of having that many kids. Now lo and behold, things are not as perfect as they seem.

As a Catholic, it annoys me that these people are held up as a model of Christianity. I grew up with an uncle that was a huge religious hypocrite, so I can spot that personality from a mile away. Real people are perpetually imperfect, some just choose to hide it with a facade. I have friends of every religion, as well as some that choose not to believe in God. It's not a big deal as I judge people by their merits, not their religious beliefs.
