I've been shifting my 915 for three years and got a good feel for it. I had to replace 1st gear dogteeth and some synchros after a jammed synchro ring last year, and it shifts better since then.
1st to 2nd I always give it about a 1/2 second pause. A wise man once said baby the transmission and spank the engine.
