According to the receipts that came with my 911, my transmission was rebuilt shortly before I purchased the car. Oddly enough, the shifter bushings & coupler weren't touched, so I took care of that right away, and installed the factory short shifter. I can shift it very well with practice now. I drove the car up to Michigan a few months ago to have some work done on it, and one thing I did notice is that it didn't want to go into fifth until after I was outside of Cleveland (about a half hour of driving). Keep in mind that ambient temps were in the low 40s. When I get it back, I might fiddle with the coupling, but I never have any trouble when it's warm out. Perhaps a drain & fill with new Swepco fluid is in order.
