I think the gap to the front is partly due to Mercedes making some progress with their power unit. I don't think they have used any tokens but I do think they have made some "reliabilty improvements" and those have probably been introduced to counter Ferrari's recent engine progress.
Kimi is always going to lag behind Vettel, at least until they figure out how to make the tires work better for him over one lap.
I still think this is Hambone's race to lose and I don't see him losing.
