Back when I was in 4th grade we had to pass a safety test to be able to ride our bicycles to school. Some of it was agility and control, but there was also a mocked up neighborhood with all the traffic signs including stop signs that you had to obey. You also had to go to the local Fire Station and get a license for you bike. It was basically to record you serial number, I think it was $1.00.
The boy and girl with the best score on the test from each school went to a city competition. Then the best from each city went to State competition. I got 4th in the State. 1st place was a new Schwin Apple Crate. 4th place was $20 gift certificate at your local bike shop.
Spent my $20 on accessories...side baskets, a speedo with odometer, rear view mirrors, and headlight.
Company I work for is hosting a bicycle training course for employees and family all of June and July. Participate and you get 15% off at a local bike shop.
We also had Driver's Ed when I went to HS.
