Mike - On the subject of speedo calibrations... every car I've ever owned, and bikes, too, have always had an optimistic speedo. IE, an indicated 80mph was actually around 73-74. I've confirmed this by looking at digital speedos in other cars at night, the mile markers, and the radar displays that the cops set up from time to time on the side of the road.
When driving my new Cab back from Florida last month, I had the cruise set on 87 in a 75 zone, thinking my actual speed was around 80-81. Well, I got tagged for doing 87 in Texas. I tried reasoning with the trooper about my logic, but eventually I shut up, fearing that I might be arrested and put in jail. He wasn't too amused.
