Look, you can't help but make an initial assessment when your first see someone. The wise man does not let that blind him to what is really there.
Also, dressing casually is not even close to dressing like a lazy slob. Wearing flip flops, by themselves, does not make you look like a lazy slob unless the person looking on is a pretentious prick.
