Regardless of breed, invest by buying from a respected breeder.
Avoid at all costs mature dogs that have been "Attack trained", attack trained dogs can be a bit of a loose cannon, especially with small children who may accidentently trigger an attack with their body language. Also to avoid unless you have a lot of experience with the type are German Shepherd and wolf crosses, sometimes a bit unpredictable.
