While in Galveston for the 4th we were running east along the sea wall in heavy traffic when a new Vette eased up along side me in "Lady In Red". He suddenly seemed to squat down squeal his tires, leap forward about two car lengths and take a hard left turn threading a hole in the opposite lane of cars.....Don't know what that was all about - but I've often seen late model Mustangs, Cameros, Challengers, etc... blow by peddle to the metal once they read "Porsche" across my back side. I guess they do the same thing when weaving past a Vette ?

The funny thing is that when I was talking car design with my friend with the new Vette and told him the 928 had placed the transmission in the rear since the late 70's he thought I was just trying to pi$$ him off. They can certainly be a touchy bunch after spending $71k on a car. After an earlier high speed test ride up some interstate on ramps in "Miss Purdy" and telling him that with a little careful shopping I can probably buy about 20 pretty good 928's for that kind of money - he's been a bit scarce.

Those new Vettes are nice cars.....Michael
I never had a Vette show off as I was driving my 928 but a lot of others have. Porsche does get attention. Of course the 928 was way ahead of it's time and it took GM with the Vette, years to catch up. Naturally our 928's cannot compete speed wise with a new Vette, especially a Z06, or many of the new cars. Not sure how much GM makes on the Corvette. After the "bail out" they were considering dropping the Vette line and I was wishing if that happened, that Ford would pick up the Vette. I am sure someone would have. GM now puts the Z06 drive train in their new Caddy! 650HP in a Caddy! Guess Grampa and the grand kids want to go fast these days on their way to Mickyd's .
