The purpose of cross drilling is to promote additional oil flow to the #2 and #5 rod bearing by filling the crank from the # 4 main bearing as well as the #1 and #8 bearings.
The groove is designed to allow the oil to flow continuously as the crank rotates.
We groove the bearing using a simple fixture we designed for the lathe.
