Reviving this thread because it's great, but also to ask a few questions of any experts out there.
On the sealant to re-join the halves, I can't manage to get loctite 574 or 515 here in Australia, nor have I found permatex high-tack, so my options are: permatex aviation form-a-gasket, permatex Indian head shellac compound; permatex permasheild -non hardening and non setting gasket sealant; or hylomar universal jointing compound.
Any recommendations from personal experience?

Also what should I lubricate the o-rings and plunger with on reassembly? I've read silicone lube, but can I just use clean engine oil or multi purpose oil?
