In Los Angeles, diesel has consistently been about $1 a gallon cheaper than 87 octane. This is of course due to the high price of gas while diesel seems to closely track national prices. Well, not quite...I just drove 2000 miles and paid as little as $2.40 for diesel in the Midwest.
You definitely need to find the cheap stations here in L.A., some will try to charge .50 or $1 more a gallon for diesel than I pay downtown in the gritty area where semis fill up. I've also seen the same cheap prices scattered all over the metro area, though.
