Great routes. We followed pretty much your exact route with the kids a few years ago, just in reverse. We drove the Grand Junction to Montrose, Salida to Pueblo route as well.

When my wife was pregnant with our first child, we spent a week trying to get lost in Utah and Colorado.

The only dirt on the route I suggested is the turn off to Delamar. It is approx 12 miles along a power line road that is in really good shape.

The route out of Delamar to Alamo is the same, but very twisty...neat small canyons. About 6 miles or so. I could be wrong

Caliente depending on the route, is 3 hours from Vegas.

We rented some ATVs in Caliente during the last test period and, since one of the BLM guys at the Caliente Field Office was a UAS guy and a former helo pilot I had become friends with on a prior trip, he took us to a number of abandoned mines, etc. in the area.

Dan, you really cannot go wrong. Enjoy.
