Daniel Rivas and Bernat Martinez were the riders. Rivas had a problem with his bike after the start of race 2 and was hit from behind in the turn one area. He was run over by another rider. Several other bikes crashed trying to avoid the carnage and Martinez was in that group.
It's not the first time that a massive crash has occurred at that spot during the start of a race. I was there several years ago for another superbike race and a couple riders came together and a whole bunch of them went down. It's a sound you don't soon forget.
A very sad day, for all concerned.
