A man bitten by a rattlesnake this month says he received a hospital bill totaling $153,000 for one visit, according to as the Washington Post's Wonkblog, and KGTV San Diego.
About $83,000 alone went to pharmacy costs for the medicine used to treat the bite, which is available from only one provider in the United States: UK-based BTG.
Wonkblog's Christopher Ingraham reported that hospitals sometimes use eye-popping invoices in order to strengthen their negotiating position with insurance companies.
