i can say that the MSD coil was noticeable in start up in the 924 too. fully worth every penny.
i am rewiri9ng my 924, and when i get to the ignition parts, i will be installing a 6AL unit with the rev limiter set to 6000 RPM. i have a few friends that use the MSD unit and EVERY ONE of them noticed a significant improvement. HP gains in some cars, better running and idle in others. in no situation was there either an unnoticeable difference, or a loss in performance.
