You might want to consider emusic.com. They charge about 2/3 what iTunes and Amazon charge.
It's a subscription site. You sign up for a monthly plan, say $10, $20, whatever. Plus they offer $25 of free music when you sign up. You can then download that much music before the end of the month. Unfortunately you cannot go over that, nor can you join without a monthly plan. You can cancel anytime, there are no restrictions about that.
Like I said, the prices are about 2/3 what iTunes and Amazon charge, but there is a bit of a catch. If you don't spend all your money by the end of the month, you lose it. Say you have a $20/month plan and you've spent $15. Your balance is now $5. When your due date comes, they will charge you another $20. But instead of having a balance of $25 like you would think, your balance is $20, so you lose that $5. Of course, all you have to do is spend the total amount and you don't lose anything.
I think this catch is how they keep prices low. They collect this extra money from unsuspecting users.
