The company I work for makes valves and pumps that are used in gas and oil production. Barrel prices have a lot more to do with our business than pump prices. We are not making profit at the current sales level. Oil & Gas production companies we sell to buy a LOT less when the oil prices get low.
Have a hiring and wage freeze going for almost a year. Good thing, the company will not lay off anyone and has plenty of cash in the bank. Attrition has decreased the 900 employees down to 800 in the last few months.
In the early 80's when oil industry crashed, we loaned workers out to the city and other local businesses and continued to pay them their current salaries. As business picked back up we just called them back in. Got lots of local community kudos for that.
