I should call some of the guys I know from my flying days out of PDX - I'm guessing it's a PITA right now to keep schedules and get things in / out of places efficiently and safely. I dealt with "fire season" a few times flying around the Sierra Nevadas a few years back and it was a mess. You don't want to fly through the smoke - even using supplemental O2 it can give you a ripping headache and it shortens the replacement intervals of engine filters (piston aircraft) and can be detrimental to the life of turbine engines so you're always trying to get around / over it - not to mention dealing with TFRs if you're VFR (going IFR is helpful).
I feel for you guys out there. Looks like a mess. Gonna be some wicked mudslides when the rains kick in a few weeks from now.
