Only 13% of crude oil used in America comes from Saudi, and only 20% from all Persian Gulf countries combined*.
And we do not import finished gasoline from Saudi since 2011*, afaik. In fact, Saudi does not have enough refining capacity to meet their own requirements and have been importing 60,000 barrels per day**. They are currently completing new refinery projects, though, and will stop importing in the next two years....

Possibly...but his lack of knowledge regarding the source of his gasoline does not make his story any less true or entertaining. I believe that most Americans still believe the middle east is the source of most oil. And oil refined in the U.S. might well still have originated elsewhere. Oil and gasoline are two different things. Even when we imported much of our oil, it was as crude, not gasoline, was it not? Saudi Arabia was among the top five source countries of U.S. petroleum imports in 2014 (along with Canada, Mexico, Venezuela, and Iraq).
I didn't see a date for the story in the OP. How do you know it was post 2011?
