Can't remember any really bad ones offhand, but a coworker of mine wanted "light" as in "shining glory" light but had chosen the character for "lightbulb light". My wife pointed this out before the drawing was carved in stone, so to speak. This is what I meant by understanding the connotation...idiomatic expressions don't translate easily or well.

The best one was a dude I knew who went by the handle of "Jefe" (Spanish for "boss"). Quite an ego, you can be sure. He decided to get "Maaved" (Hebrew for "boss") tattooed on his shoulder. Now, the "D" in Hebrew looks very much like the "R"......so he wound up, unknowingly, with "Maaver". Which, loosely translated, means "pedestrian crossing".

Disclaimer: I don't know Hebrew, so my translations/spelling/whatever may be off.
