Unfortunately I did not get a picture of the two engines side by side, but lexus is definitely a lot skinnier than the Porsche,
When pulling the Porsche V8 (early 16 valve version) motor out, the clearance heads to guards is about a quarter inch per side (at one stage, I thought it might have to come out from underneath) The Lexus has a good 3 1/2 inches per side clearance.
I found this comparison lexus V8 with Rover V8 (Buick/Olds 215 from about 1960- the English kept it alive for another 40 years

) That was not a big engine, yet on the measurements stated the Lexus is a comparable size.

Jadewombat, I didn't quite get the engine to fit the hood curvature, the throttle body was just a fraction too high, lexus used a fly by wire accelerator, and as aftermarket ECUs are illegal for road use in Australia, and the conversion had to be engineer certified as complying to all Australian design rules I had to leave it there. (I know, everyone and their brothers has a Motec etc ECU)
I had to put a scoop on to cover it, a small one six inches square would have covered it, but would have looked a bit stupid, so I went with a 1965 Cobra Mustang- reversed. Getting the hood curve onto the scoop was harder than it looked, didn't realize the Porsche hood had that much curve. I will replace it in the future with a fibre glass or carbon fibre full hood skin that includes the bulge,
