Yes, it's a Targa (though I imagined the turn signal operation to be the same across the body styles. The idea about the dome light was darrin's, not mine)

In terms of the battery the theory was that, if left to sit with those lights on, the light bulbs use up the battery to the point where the starter won't engage.

So, um, yes, a dead battery would not power a light. I get that. While the lights are on, however, I'm fairly sure electrons are leaving the battery, and it's slowly draining. :-)
