Just continuing the discussion.
Getting a tattoo is definitely not for everyone thus the reason some people do and some people don't get one. It does not bother me at all if people can't stand them because everyone has stuff they don't like.
There are some I have seen that are very intricate & with a lot of colors. I think it is kind of interesting to hear some of the stories people tell about them. Just another way to get to know people. It was a decision they made at a time in their life (just like non-tattoo decisions that people make in their life that makes a person who they are).
I did not get mine until I was 30...looked at many locations before deciding where to get it, and chose a place where it would be a one of kind design based on a sketch I drew first...not something picked off a wall (

).
You can't even see my angel unless I have a racer back shirt on or a summer tank. I do not advertise it to the masses.
My 17 year niece (very similar to what Isabo started this thread with) is getting into the piercing and thinking of a tattoo when she is 18. We had a long talk about it over July 4th and I asked her what the rush was. (There is a "youth" thing going-on).
I know she is going to do what she is going to do...but we talked about being very thoughtful about what she decides, would she be happy or regret doing it now, think "location location location" as far as visibility affecting future employment opportunities. So who knows...ultimately it is her decision & her bod.
But another thing....DO NOT DRINK & THEN GET A TATTOO.
A guy friend of mine was in the marines and got drunk with his buddies and they all got one. He said his was a ninja turtle...I said are you sure they understood what you wanted? That looks like Chubaka (sp?) from Star Wars to me.

He had a good sense of humor about it.
Also a gal I used to know wanted a 4" panther on her back & also had a few beverages before getting hers...Uummmm it turned out to be about 9" long and she freaked.
So there's some more misc info on this subject.
