I think it all depends on what kind of riding you are going to do. I mostly ride on farm lanes and through trails in the woods with an occasional creek and several mud spots, but mostly flatland NW Ohio, hardly any elevation change and no rocks. I'm 50 and slowing down so my nice old soft suspended Honda XR200 is perfect. I would like to try a side by side like a Razr, but budget limits me to dirtbikes.
If you want to putter around the yard or farm like me, a small 4 stroke is perfect, if you want to get big air and throw roostertails on technical rides, then maybe a bigger 2 stroke is for the "thrasher" in you. If you are riding in tight woods, you will learn to hate a wide ATV or Razr when you start scratching all the panels.
