I believe that 16x9 rears fit just fine without fender rolling/etc and actually sit about as far "out" toward the fenders as 16x8 wheels -- much of the extra inch (over 16x8) sits on the inside of the wheel.

Tire availability is the "rub" (see where I went there . . .) with 16x9 wheels, however, as there are VERY few choices available in the 245/45-16 tire size they require, while 16x8 wheels can run the readily-available 225/50-16 tire size.

As indicated above, many folks (me included) DO need to roll their front fenders on narrow body carreras to avoid rubbing when running 16x7 wheels and 205/55-16 tires. Also, keep in mind that you can use your current 16x7 rears up front and simply buy a pair of 16x8 for the rear. Finally, don't forget that Porsche Classic is now selling real 16x8 fuchs (new) for a not-so-astronomical price (around $1,200 each) in standard black center finish.
