You get what you pay for.

Most people care about exactly one thing - cheap fare. The industry has responded accordingly and you get what we now have - airlines as ghetto as Greyhound and planes packed full of low-rent losers who are somewhat challenged with respect to knowing what constitutes socially acceptable behaviour. Get used to it or pony up for higher prices - it really is that simple. As long as people continue to only demand low prices nothing else will matter and flying will continue to attract people who years ago never would have been on airplanes at all.

"Too polite" is a descriptor I'd never, ever use to describe the behavior of other passengers on any commercial flying experience I've had - at least domestic. International is a different animal entirely, particularly on foreign carriers. Much more pleasant IMHO.
