The best "fix" for the fans on a 944 is to replace the front bearing with a sealed unit before they fail.

Water and dirt still gets into the front bearing besides being behind the hub on the fan and causes the bearing to bind and sieze up. When this happens the armature and comutator burns out.

I've just found one of my spares where I've replaced the bearing and have intentions of making a step by step with illustrations. It's not too hard really as you drill out four rivits that hold the front bearing cup in and swap out the bearings. I used some very small hardware (hut and bolt) to replace the rivits along with some thread locking goop.

So far the two fans I've done this too have lasted three to four times longer than the first one I replaced.

When was the last time you changed your timing and balance belts and/or cam chain and tensioner?
