My first flight was on a buddy box but he never had to step in. I did a lot of R/C car racing in my younger days so it was mostly watching speed and piloting full size helped with that. Should be exciting times.
My brother in law flew a lot and put one of his high performance models through a hangar roof on one of the R/C days at the local airport. Another put a scratch built P-51 into a corn field. This was back in your Day Richard with having to hand build stuff from balsa, paper and dope. He was trying to see how many spins he could do. He did 32. he should have stopped at 31.
