A lot of truth here. The weight of the window makes it easier on the motor going down than up so when the motor (or gears) are suffering they will usually fail when working the hardest.
On my work truck, the driver's side failed and until I have time to fix it - I took the door panel off, unbolted the drive, and stuck a manual handle on it so at least I can roll it up and down.
