So thanks folks for items list. And J AZ I do read owner manuals but show me one that says for "Chicago and return take a fuel pump, DME, some fuses and some tools"...more likely to say "Repairs for fuel management and timing sequence; suggest authorized dealer...see owners manual for list of author.....:

AH! A 5000 mile trip in a ?????? 944, 951, 944S ?????....every previous post is air cooled, 356, 914, 911 .
An old water pumper 944 may never get you home without some idea of the inherent flaws.
I do not know how long you have owned the car you plan to use but I only know a new owner needs a Platinum AAA membership and a gold credit card for a 5000 mile trip.
Edit: Is this the "gals" car? If so, to over all of the past 5 years of maintenance done.
