Should not hurt them, everyone agrees there is a limited market for the product and it's only really profitable at exorbitant markup.
They would probably spend more in buying the resulting PR value than they lose by not making a profit on this one drug.

If they are able to support their manufacturing with other products then they may be able to keep it at $1 for philanthropic reasons. I worked for a generic manufacturer years ago and we had to sell tetracycline for $.10 per capsule just to remain competitive. So it is possible. But there are tradeoffs.
