Thank you. That makes sense. I will have a deeper look to rule out the chain rails.

I just poked into the piece of debris with the point of a box cutter and the piece just broke in two. It feels more brittle than plastic would, almost like a bakelite type substance. Are there any other components inside the engine that are not metal besides chain ramps? Could it be a piece of a gasket or some gasket type goo that hardened and broke off into the sump area? A pic of the debris as a reminder...
