Highly informative.

That makes sense. It leaves you with a bunch of studs that need to be removed from the block and you need to buy head bolts. OMG what a fun day that could be.

BUT, It COULD be done. I am not sure that I want to be the man to do it. There will be one stage of the process where you are staring down at a whole bunch of cut studs hoping that they will all come out. And when your done with that, There is a whole other bank of cylinders, SO you get to do it AGAIN! I guess, you dont really have to do the other side. You could trust that 30 year old head gasket with lots of miles. How often does the RIGHT side head gasket go??

Yea. I can see why removing the engine to do the heads MIGHT be a better way to go. It is good to have the information in order to make an informed decision. I also see why there is no real write up of the procedure. Anyone reading this post has a pretty good chance of beating me to the punch and R&R (ing) a 928 head in frame because I am NOT likely to jump out there to my garage and get right on this one.

However, It is good to know I could do the job in frame if..... I was stuck in a remote location without a hoist. Or in a garage with really low ceilings.
