rocker covers off now

I completed further examination of the chain rails, all 6 of them with a borescope camera. I cannot find any pieces missing from the chain rails.

Then removed the rocker covers. I cannot find anything loose or missing. Camshaft lobes look lovely, no marks. These are Elgin 964 grind cams with < 10k miles. I was not able to confirm that the valve springs are in order. How do you view them? I was able to remove everything so far with no engine drop.

Question 1. With the spark plugs out how easy should it be to turn the motor over with a spanner on the pulley nut? I could get it to turn but only by putting quite a bit of force into it (its a short spanner). So I stopped after about 180* turn. I'm asking because next step would be to perform a leakdown and or compression test.

Question 2 (and probably not relevant to this saga). As I was examining the rockers I noticed that none of the rocker shafts were flush with the edge of their supports, maybe protruding by 1 to 1.5mm. In the Bentley manual it mentions the rocker shaft should be approx flush, but its unlcear whether that means approx flush with some protruding or approx flush but inset more into the casing/support.
