I had to take FORTRAN my freshman year in college. Had to use AutoCAD as well. We had some nice pucks though so it wasn't too bad and better than manual entry.
The built in PC migration tools still suck. Better to use a 3rd party app in this case.
We have a couple PCs with SS drives in them. We use them as boot drives because streaming our movies doesn't require a lot of bandwidth. If it was the only drive in the system I can see why you want a larger drive. Though on my wife's laptop she has an eSATA connection for an portable drive. That is a nice, fast connection for an external drive. USB 3.x is pretty fast as well. Hard to get Firewire on any PC these days.
