I personally like to "soak" my barrel with some foam for about 30 minutes before cleaning. It really loosens up the crap. Then I use a brass jag sized to the caliber with a cleaning patch. I like the Birchwood Casey stuff. I use a Remington barrel squeegee between patches and brushings. It takes me about 5 minutes of actual effort to clean a barrel.
I toss the action into an ultrasonic cleaner. I tend not to worry about this kind of stuff too much for bolt-actions.
